Center Caps (or if Martha Stewart had a lowrider)

They say necessity is the mother of invention, so when Tru-spoke sent me the wrong size chips for the two bar knockoffs I gave them a call and was informed that they only make one size chip, which fits the three bar knockoff and my only option was to send them back, they weren't going to do anything about it. So, I just decided to make my own. I know there are places on the interwebs where you can order custom chips but I wanted a bit more input on the creative part.

After watching a few arts & crafts youtube videos, I discovered "doming resin" which people were using to make jewelry. This stuff is magic, dries perfectly smooth and glossy and durable. It uses surface tension to conform to shape so no trimming necessary. Been over a year on the car and still not a scratch.

    Practicing on some throw-aways:

    Results were ok:

Once I had the doming technique down, time to make the real ones, on metal. Found some rainbow prism sheets at arts&crafts store:

    And some 1.75 aluminum discs:

Painted (shoulda used gloss, but still looks ok after doming):

Photoshop for the text to resemble the font used by Tru-spoke and then onto the vinyl die-cutter then onto the chips:

Doming with the resin, a little goes a long way and the toothpick is for popping any air bubbles:
