    Carson top on 60's Cars?

    Hello.
I'm searching around after pictures of any 60's car with a carson top, fiberglass roof or removable hardtop.
And i would also like to see them with the roof off.

The cars i have in mind are like 59, 60-64 cadillacs, impala and so on..
I would like to see some pictures, Best thing would be if anyone have like a build thread on any forum?

hope you get what i'm searching for..

I've seen a few old Caddy's with the top cut off. Around here they tend to call them 'Parade Cars' because they're good for driving in parades but not practical for much of anything else. It always seemed like less of a custom thing and more that someone had a few too many beers and decided to make their car into a convertible.

There were a few cars with 1/2 tops done for the Ford Custom Car Caravan by Barris in the 60's, I believe. Here's one-

Foppa, if I remember correctly, you were going to chop the top on your '61 Cad... So how did that work out?

Funny you said rip gatoloco cause its exactly what i told him on the ****.

There where some cool ones done in the 70s, so its not totally out of question, but it sure take big balls to do one properly.

The hollywood topped fairlane is bad. Needs dropped and a 2" chop thou.

Adamo, have you seen the build thread for that 59?
That dude did a hell of a nice job on that car, he started with a wreck that was half buried upside down, and i really dont think it looks bad, but then again, i have weird taste on cars

Anyways, Rikster posted a pic of Teddy Z on the ****, a 59 chevy with a padded removable hardtop. Shitty 80s styling but great proportions imo.
Again, with some restraint i think it could be done, but deff not an easy task

you don't ever cut the roof off a Cadillac roof, let alone chop it! if you're going to carson top something, do it to a Bel-Air or cheaper car.

yes you did.. it's in the making.. But i do like the idea of going with a chopped Carson top instead.. Why is a Custom build only Okey when it's finished and not during the "idea" stage?

So i dont want to hear "dont chop it", cause thats not what i was asking for, i asked for pictures of carson topped 60's cars..

and a photoshop, (but the chop is real).

There's nothing wrong with the idea stage. We've all got to start somewhere. The reason myself and others were protesting the chop is because so many 60's cars end up as scrap due to a bad chop. Can it be done? Of course it can, but pulling it off is difficult. If I had some pictures of Carson topped 60's cars, I would share them with you. But to be honest, I've personally not seen one I liked. And you're right, you asked for pictures, not opinions. I'm sorry I don't have any pics for you.

Does the black Cadillac look bad? No. But I don't see a top.

Just to be clear, when you say "Carson top", do you mean a removable top? Or like a fake convertable top?

The black caddy has good looking black paint. The end. As far as a carson top on a 60's car, they kind of fight what gives a 60's car it's appeal. Carson tops are padded and the fact that they are fabric removes the clean straight lines that make a 60's car long and sleek. I could see a removable hard top if it looked factory when on, and all the trim and finish looked clean and correct when removed. This would require some fine fabrication skills, otherwise the car would be ruined, and in the end how important would it be to roll topless?

^^^See? That is EXACTLY the kind of shit I think of when someone mentions chopping or Carson topping a 60's car

Not saying it can't be done, but it's very difficult to pull off.
