This weekend the oppressive heat and humidity finally lifted a little and on Sunday I took a trip out to Greg's new place for another Easy Off session on the '66.

After figuring out the best technique to attack the leafing, a lot got done. Its probably one more session away from being completely clean.

Licking is not effective at all at removing striping

Between the front spring swap and the striping removal, its like a completely different car. Unfortunately I didn't get any whole-car shots because we worked on it until well after it got dark and streetlights aren't all that common in Middle-of-Nowhere, IL.

    Great night indeed.

It was the first night we had in a while where the weather was darn near perfect so it was even better to have a nice clandestine cruise to hit up.

Since we all come from different directions we met up at a gas station in the vicinity of the cruise so we could roll in together.

ooBrian and I got there first and after catching up for a few minutes we were joined by Carlos (64poncho) and his buddy that made the trip down from northern IL.

btw - Carlos' '64 Catalina is clean as shit. Almost made me feel inadequate with my rough interior and gnarly bumpers.

After discussing that we really weren't sure we were going, we headed out following Brian's lead since he sounded like he might a clue.

Found the spot without much difficulty.
It was a great location right near Lake Shore Drive. Scenic as hell, in the heart of the city.

Sometime after midnight the cops came and told us we had to leave, so some folks split off and others rollled through downtown to a different spot. Brian headed home and Carlos and I followed the chain.

I was really impressed that we managed to stay together pretty well as we rolled down Lake Shore Drive and into the southern part of downtown Chicago. Especially since the caravan was easily 15-20 rides deep.

Tourists and city dwellers alike looked on in awe as this circus of cars-- bombs with sirens blaring, G-bodies on three wheels, early '60s Pontiacs on Supremes-- all emerged out of the night and slid past them down South Michigan Ave.

Hung out at the second spot briefly but it was getting late so Carlos and I headed back.

It was really great to roll all the way to my exit off of I-94 along with another car. We rolled side by side for quite a while at speeds that might have approached the speed limit, much to the dismay of the sea of cars making the late night exodus out of the city that were behind us. At one point I noticed that traffic seemed to be exceptionally light because there were very few cars ahead of me... until I looked in the mirror and saw a solid mass of headlights behind us. hahaha

A few taken with my phone. Had planned to capture a lot of video, but the GoPro was not participating as planned.
Next time will have to make more of an effort to capture us.

After a good time with the fellers last night, it was family time today.
Loaded everyone up and headed down to the recently reopened 31st beach. They've added a beautiful harbor as well. It's a 1.5 mile straight shot down the street, so it's nice to have access to it again. Wrapped up the afternoon with a trip to the ice cream shop.
These are the best of times.
