A great loss. I had heard about Walt before I ever met him, known then as the "Kid Striper". A remarkable career that will not be forgotten. R.I.P. Walt.

Condolences to his family R.I.P Walt.
I'm sorry, I don't care how fucking groovy and melodic metal music might get, you do not EVER dance to metal. PERIOD. You might bang your head, swing and sway with the groove, jump up and down and pit with the other long-hair's, but you don't FUCKING DANCE TO IT.

    Walt Prey

    walt2.jpgwalt.jpg

I met Walt for the first time at a car show in San Diego. It was 1967, I think November. He was striping the blue Corvair seen in the photo. Stripers had been my heroes for years and I just had to have a picture. Walt didn't mind at all and was very personable, a real nice guy. I saw immediately that he was very good at what he did and ask if he could do a complete flame job on my recently metal flake painted '67 Impala. He was enthusiastic about the idea but later he hooked me up with Dave Kent of Kent's Customs in Venice. Walt worked out of Kent's shop at the time and together we quickly thought better of the full flame plan and settled on a tasteful lace pattern. After Dave Kent applied the lace patterns Walt striped the car. I was more than pleased with the result (and, having come to my senses, relieved it wasn't flamed!).

The other photo was taken a few months later at a show in the Great Western Exhibition Center. Walt striped the T bucket and boat and did the accompanying sign.
