2-drive as good or better then it did with the previous lowering(pretty good actually)
3-get it done before cherries jubilee(local show) and billetproof
4-finally see some 1960's chryslers low down.
5-first real bag job so don f*** up too bad(see #2)

so lets begin--lets get all this stuff

    fenders gone

    dirty boo

getting ready to pressure wash 40 years of shit away, or getting ready for a night out?

best stuff ever. just go to the 99cent store and get the most generic oven cleaner they have it is way cheaper than gunk or any degreasers and it works great. spray on, let sit, rinse an repeat. wear a mask though it tastes like cancer

2 hours later pretty respectable not going to win any beaty contests yet but clean enough to disassemble and get to the real cleaning.

this is with the torsion bars completely turned down with the control ars sitting on the frame. don't have a pic but it is like 3 1/4 from the ground at the front crossmember, which along with the frame is the lowest point

fender mocked up at above height. not low enough!! maybe ok for cruising but not for parking.

a reveiw of the problem to keep things in perspective.

let's get cutting! point of no return folks! what is happening here is the wierd shock tower that goes through the frame is being cut out, along with the bump stop mount and the sway bar brackets

me grinding off the slag and cleaning up the frame

and through the magic of time lapse the frame is even cleaner! its really just that easy!!

much more travel, now we are getting some where!

what did we gain from that little bit of cutting? 2 1/4 inches, getting closer 1 inch (oh how the earth laughs)

wow its low, but those angles are looking kind of suspect. hmmm

at this point we are getting in to stupid low territory, and it seems that after we got 3 1/4 inches away every inch multiplied our problems and work by a good margin. some thinking is in order. after all i drove this car for a year and a half daily and i want some semblance of that when im done, cruise straight and true and no funny wiggling when the road gets bumpy.

    one last cool shot

so what does any sane person do to their subframe when a simple bag job isn't enought? he works a little harder now to avoid alot of work later.

    AND HE Z'S THE SUBFRAME!!

it hasn't really hit me yet here

OH MY GOD! what have i done!! oh well now i gotta fix it cool.

and the last post for tonight cause this is where its at currently.

with a drop base air cleaner and a little finagling i can z it about 3.25 inches and still clear the hood so to be safe i think we are going to do 2.5, which will really help with my geomatry while keeping me from having to move the whole steering box up along with all of the suspension points.

tune in this week for more crazy mopar action-- same boat time , same boat channel

    matt

and after it was easy to get to i cleaned the hell out of it on the bottom

and just to refresh that it was a working driving fairly low car to begin with, what is wrong with us!

as soon as i have the time this week everything bare metal is getting metal prepped so it wont rust while we are working on it than primer and imron chassis paint for that all black look. for once ill have a car with no grease on it, well for a little while.

and just think after i bag this plan ol coil spring cars should be a breeze, might as well start out with a difficult/wierd one so you know you can do the more common setups.

thanks steamboat, everyone will finally be able to see what i have for the past 2 years. yours is one of my favorite cars on here by the way i have to have one the bumpers are gorgeous.

This is something I've only considered in theory... can't wait to see how your path unfolds!

BTW, did you buy this car at the Roundup two years ago?
I think we can do better than that...

good work with that z youre gonna want to sink the bag into the frame rail to get it as close to the pivot point as possable to get enough useable travel and actually get off the ground and to a manageable drive height....

are you running that parnelli jones wheel in the first picture or just teasing me? if you got an extra center cap, i am on the look out since one on my set of 15" has a crack in it. all four on the set of 14" that i got are perfect.

62pest--yes they are ford pattern parnelli jones 14x6's yours were the first i saw and i was hooked, unless there are some hollywoods some where fore sale :D
unfortunately i dont have any of the center caps. my plan is to machine up a bullet that fits over the center and can be attached from the back then make a mold and
cast 4 of them, i dont think it wold be right to have a machined bullet on a cast wheel, even if they are polished. casting looks like a whole lot of fun and thats a pretty
easy shape plus im on the look out for some of the parnelli jones labeled spinners. a man can dream!!

lilbawbee-- i am planning on doing just that. i will place the bag as close to the inner frame rail as possible (with a 1/2 inch of clearance) and then trim as necessary. that pic
was just to show how small the actual frame is and the problem im facing.

tinman-- no i got it from an elderly gentleman and his wife, who after having a stroke could not drive anymore. i tried to get his car as well, a gold with black vinyl 1967 Cadillac
coupe deville that had even less miles (approx 55k) and looked new. no dice though.

thanks for all the comments guys you know how to make a new guy feel welcome.

any specific questions or pic requests feel free to ask

    Nice, interesting and fearless.
Will you have any issues as to pinion/tailshaft angle without changing (lowering/modifying) engine mounts? How about the trans tunnel? Will you have enough clearance? I would think about dropping engine frame mounts at least 75% of the increase in height by z' ing the clip or see if you can make some of it up by checking other motor mounts???

Maybe you're good the way you are! Keep up the great work on that Mopar!
