Went and saw it in person today. Oooooooooooowwwweeeeeee! its gonna be tasty once he's done with it. I stopped by as Mike was in the middle completely reworking the driver's side fender to accept the 55' bezel and he gave me a rundown of the things to come. The headlights rule and there is all sorts of sneaky shit going on on her too. End of the month she's going to be sitting pretty.

Zor I just missed you! how's that flan holding up? LOL! If you swing by tomorrow you'll see a lot done. I started on patch panels for the floors... just want it sturdy if you know what I mean! and I have a rocker panel repair to do too then it's finished on the floors! plus like Mike said it's a pretty clean car to begin with.

The flan hit the spot, sorry I missed you. Mike's right, it's a pretty solid car. I gave it a good once over and I'm stoked about it. Plus, that helps the progress. She is going to be in action before you know it!

Beautiful work! I always enjoy seeing your fab skills at work. I'm considering a similar headlight treatment...there is a '54 caddy next door than I can take measurements from and seeing your pictures helps me visualize how exactly to do it. Thanks!

So heres a step by step on the headlights.

First thing was to make little cuts so I could put the J clips on the headlamp housing instead of the fender, and get that shit reversed. It's funny how by screwing it in backwards makes for perfect spacing for 55 bezels.

The 54 bezel is oblong, so next is to make the opening round to match the 55 bezel.

It took some pie cuts to smooth it out.

    Then get the wire shaped...

then make the upper mounting bracket...

Then a couple of strips of sheetmetal to hold the wire in place...

Then fab the new sheetmetal cap to make it flow into the fender...

    Then weld...

Tomorrow I'll put up picks of it metal finished and ready for filler, and pics of Roger's Floor patches all welded uP!

Im always impressed at how clean is your metalwork, no matter how small the area is.
If you dont mind a stupid question, how do you bend the small diameter rod, say like the one you used on the bezels?
I usually heat it on a round piece of thick steel, but there has to be a easier way.

By hand because he's a badass like that.... but seriously are you just using a torch and something with the right size radius to bend over? I don't have a torch yet, so I'm going to have to find something the right size that is quite rigid to bend over...

Yeah, and its a pain in the ass sometimes.
Im hoping to find out about a homemade tube bender kinda tool that Mike's built that us mortals can replicate.
The heatin and then bend over the right radius round piece gets old fast, trust me. But you have to do what you have to do i guess.
