    Pescos and Rays

So a while back I had my engine rebuilt and I put in a th350. I was stoked because the only cutting required was to the drive shaft. A guy from the car club I was from at the time took me to his spot for the shaft shortening. It cost me 20 bux and 20 minutes. I didnt think anything about it untill I put it all back together. Damn it :x vibration.... Oh well I will fix it after a couple of shows. Well you know how that goes a couple of show turned to more and more and like I said most of you know where this is heading. Just recently I took it out and at about 45 mph it started to really vibrate. It bugged me enough to yank it out and take it to a drive shaft specialist. It turns out they welded on the end crooked. they had to chop off the original piece and weld on a totally new piece because the other guy destroyed the original with his hack job. I buttoned everything back up last night and took it for a test drive... puuurrffect!

random pic of my homie and I at a show earlier this year.

    I miss my old topic

    question for you motor guys

Since I got the vibratration taken care of I knew i will be driving my car more. I took it to the mechanic to get dialed in I figured I couldn't go wrong for 30 bux. He realized I had my vacuum lines switched around and re-timed it. I knew it needed that cuz I changed the internal springs on my HEI. he basically touched everything making sure it was all tuned in. I get it back and it still has a shake kind of like a muscle car shaking with the rumble of the exhaust. I thought it should be smooth since it is supposed to be dialed in to perfection so I called the mechanic up to ask questions. According to him with the vintage edelbrock intake the edelbrock 600 carb, sport tuned HEI and the glass packs its gonna have a shake. none of these parts are aggressive as a matter of fact I went the opposite route to save some money on gas and so I don't become my neighbors worst nightmare.

Is the mechanic truthful in telling me the small upgrades I have made are going to make it shake? I am not looking for muscle but more of a vintage kind of sporty luxury car. Kinda quiet but when I stomp on it boom its gone.

Thanx for reading I look forward to hearing any opinion I can get.

He's correct to a degree. If the shake is ill-timed or sporatic it's the timing. If it has a little shake at idle, but nothing major it could very well be the intake/carb combo. I have a brand new Eddelbrock Performer intake and new carb and my 350 has that little shake. I had it dialed in as well. Timed prefectly, dwell adjusted, etc. Better than when I first put the intake on, but still vibrates a bit. I don't think you should worry.

If everything is working right the glass packs could have something to do with it. A swap to turbo mufflers or even stock passenger car mufflers will quiet it down some.

If you're going for that '60s luxo-sport style, the fact that your car is a Chevy may have something to do with the extra noise as well. Buicks and Oldsmobiles had a lot more sound and vibration dampening built into them. Everything from stuff in the interior to suspension and engine bay had more rubber isolators and insulation to supress engine and road noise. Part of what made Chevys less expensive is that they were built with a lot less of that.

Covering the floor and inside of the doors with Dynamat or something like it will help too.

Thanx fellas alot of good info there.

    Eryk,
You actually made me feel alot better. I would like a smooth ride but if I got to deal with some shake in exchange for perormance then its just something I have to deal with.

    Ras,
I might have worded it wrong when I put luxury. I just want a smooth, steady and classy (thats the word I was looking for) car. Then again my version of classy is no where near the norm. I am sure when I flake it people will say that i over did it hehehe. Im also not really worried about sound I love the way it sounds now, real quiet until I want to put the pedal down. Dynomat would be a great idea... I wish I could afford it

I have too may ideas and not enough money to turn them into reality!

    update 10/25/07 Thursday

As some of you already know I picked these up from Eryk recently.
    Thanx Big Dawg!

This of course set of a chain reaction. I couldnt roll Poncho tags so I picked up these.

Im leaning more torwards the black ones. Also I had to get Lugnuts. I had a bad time dealing with the lugnut king so i just picked up a set from egay... I was too impatient to wait for Pomona or Long Beach Swaps.

Now is the big hunt for tires.... why is it so hard to find a flippin white wall???
I will post my progress as it comes.

OOO Nice. I'm kinda digging the silver ones.

Good luck with the tire search dude. I'm getting some 14's pretty soon too. I'll probably go to SanFernandoTires again. I checked walmart and they didn't have shit.

I'm not a big fan of generic modern logos. I always feel like they diminish the potential vintage/timeless feel of a wheel.

What's the diameter of that emblem?

I would consider finding a chrome bullet that fits in there.
They'll stick out pretty far but I guess I like that sorta thing...

The logos are temporary if I can help it but it doesn't look good. The chip diameter is 2 1/4 so it didn't leave me many options. I even thought about going to a local spot and having a custom Spade chips made but then well.... that's far hehehehe. I cant really go bullets because they are Appliance not Trus so it doesn't have that threading that the others have for the bullets to . these caps kinda clip into place and the original A logo tri bar that I want.... LOCO hehehe they have a plastic piece that goes through the back to screw into place. My options were limited.

If you have options Im listening... That was the original goal to have several spinners bullets being included. I thought it would be hilarious to watch their faces at a lowrider show when they first saw a 64 with bullets on its wires.

Keep an eye out for me please if you find Appliance tri bars let me know.

I've been toying with the idea of printing up some metalflake vinyl stickers for center caps. I can get almost any color, and I could even cut a Boulevardos spade with my vinyl plotter at work. 8)

Are you getting them mounted today?

On the vibration issue-did you check your carrier bearing? I know you know how since you told me how! Really though, mine does the same thing; considering all the other shit I've had to deal with, I wonder if a hack job shaft isn't my issue too... Of course, I discovered I was missing my back two header to down pipe bolts, so once I replaced those, the vibration went down (and the performance went up).
I have the motor and tranny since April, so I'm still getting things sorted out...

Change it....check your driveshaft and u-joints too. Does it happen at any certain speed?

Im gonna replace the carrier eventually for a HD one when I get the airide done but I was holding out as long as needed. Besides the pro gave it an okay. As far ash exhaust goes I got that problem too. I think my exhaust manifold it warped cuz I blow through gaskets like crazy. I have gotten good at replacing them. I am about to get it replaced though for one with the accessssory bracket holes for a compressor. Plan is to make it look like the stock a/c is functional, one of the million any ways.

Couldnt hurt especially since I beleive it was your ride that the drive shaft was rubbin on the body or frame. that sress didnt disapear it had to go some where. might be best to have the whole thing checked.
